Defense Shuts Out No. 2 West Virginia, Eagles Earn Third-Straight Draw

Draw represents second draw against nationally-ranked program for Eagles
MORGANTOWN, W. Va. - Nate Martinez's seven saves and fourth clean sheet of the season set the Georgia Southern men's soccer team up for its second-ever draw against a nationally-ranked program in school history, as the Eagles leave Morgantown with a 0-0 draw against the second-ranked West Virginia Mountaineers.
The Mountaineers (6-0-2) came out as the aggressor, racking up 10 shots and eight corners in the first half of play, but both teams still had zeros on the scoreboard as halftime came. The Eagles (1-3-4) tallied three saves to WVU's none, as Martinez held a hungry WVU offense out of the goal during the first 45 minutes of play.
In the second half of play, the Mountaineers put up another 10 shots to total 20 on the night, but Martinez saved another four shots to total seven saves in the match. Georgia Southern also put up two shots from Manuel Prieto and Ty Wilson, with both coming late in the game as the Eagles put pressure on the WVU defense.
The Eagles and the Mountaineers end the night both tied for fourth in the conference standings as both have two points and are 0-0-2 in Sun Belt play.

The Eagles visit the UAB Blazers on Sept. 26 before returning home to host the top-ranked Marshall Thundering Herd on Oct. 1.
