STATESBORO - The Georgia Southern men's soccer team earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw against the Mercer Bears on Tuesday, Sept. 19, at Eagle Field. The Eagles move to 1-3-3 on the season while Mercer takes its third draw of the season, now sitting at 4-1-3.
Georgia Southern took a 1-0 lead into the half when
Ty Wilson scored his first collegiate goal after shooting from a screen in the far-right side of the box, sending the ball in front of the goalkeeper and lodging it into the back left corner of the net. The Bears would outshoot the Eagles in the first half by a ratio of 6-3, but
Nate Martinez would save two balls while MU's keeper had zero saves in the first half.
The Eagles would have to play with only ten players for the final 27 minutes of the second half when
Keeyen Deane was called for a red card in the 63', and Mercer would score the equalizer when a Bears player saw an open net off to the left side of the goal in the 66'. The Bears would shoot eight shots in the second half to the Eagles' two, holding a 14-5 advantage in shots on the night, but Martinez would add two more saves to save four goals to Mercer's zero.
Both sides would get into caution trouble during the contest, with eight combined cards being called during the game, including seven in the final 45 minutes of the contest.

The Eagles venture back into conference play to take on the second-ranked West Virginia Mountaineers in Morgantown, W.Va., on Friday, Sept. 22. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
