JOHNSON CITY, TENN. - The Georgia Southern men's soccer team fell in the 2023 season opener to the East Tennessee State Buccaneers by a final score of 1-0 at Summers-Taylor Stadium in Johnson City, Tenn. The loss moves the Eagles to 0-2-0 all-time against the Buccaneers.
The Eagles (0-1-0) came out aggressive in the contest, taking five shots in the first 25 minutes of action against ETSU (1-0-0). One shot was saved by each goalkeeper in the first half, but the Buccaneers were able to push in a goal at the 26' which ended up being the difference in the contest. At the end of the first half, the Eagles held the advantage on shots (six to five) and corner kicks (five to two).
In the second half, the match was more evenly matched, with ETSU taking five shots to the Eagles' three, and three corners to Georgia Southern's two. Neither team would score and each goalkeeper would add a second save to their tally, leading to the 1-0 victory for ETSU.

Georgia Southern will host its home opener on Sunday, Aug. 27, against UNC Asheville. Kick-off is set for 2 p.m. from Eagle Field.
