STATESBORO - The Georgia Southern men's soccer team battled with the visiting Stetson Hatters, ending the evening with a 1-1 draw at Eagle Field on Wednesday, August 16. Georgia Southern will have one more tune-up game against Clayton State on Aug. 19 before entering into the regular season on Aug. 24 in a road match against ETSU.
It took less than five minutes for Georgia Southern to take the lead in the match as
Zachary Martin rebounded his own penalty kick save and pushed the ball past the goalkeeper, giving the Eagles a big 1-0 lead on the night. In the 27', Stetson's Andres Mata responded with an equalizer to take a 1-1 draw into the half.
The second half saw the physicality between the two squads come out, as three different Stetson players earned yellow cards all within 10 minutes of each other.
AJ Pama would take a yellow card for the Eagles in the 78', but neither team would break through to take the lead, settling for a 1-1 draw at final time.
Both teams finished with 11 shots, with the Eagles having seven shots on goal to Stetson's three. Georgia Southern's
Nate Martinez notched two saves in the contest while both of the Hatters' keepers tallied three saves each. Stetson outfouled the Eagles by a 16-to-10 margin.

Georgia Southern will host the (NCAA Division II) Clayton State Lakers out of the Peach Belt Conference on Saturday, Aug. 19 at 2 pm for the final exhibiton of the season. Afterwards, the Eagles will open the season against the ETSU Buccaneers on the road on Aug. 24.
