STATESBORO - Georgia Southern women's tennis senior Paula Hijos and junior Silvia Martinez have each earned spots on the Collegiate Sports Communicators Academic All-District Tennis team, announced today by the organization.
A senior from Jaca, Spain, Hijos earns the honor for carrying a 3.85 GPA in business administration - management. The three-time Sun Belt Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll honoree has won more than 50 singles matches for the Eagles in her career and she will return for her fifth year of eligibility in 2024.
Martinez, meanwhile, earns her first academic honor for the Eagles by carrying a 3.66 GPA in political science. The Barcelona, Spain, transferred to Georgia Southern after playing her freshman year at Ball State and has been a fixture at the top of the singles lineup for the Eagles, earning back-to-back first-team All-Sun Belt Conference singles honors.
Both student-athletes will advance to national balloting for possible Academic All-America honors, which will be announced on June 1. This is the first year that CSC has sponsored All-District and All-America teams strictly for tennis.
To be eligible for CSC Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA at her institution.
