Group meets with reps from Delta, Coca-Cola and Chick-fil-A
Grace Drawdy is a sophomore multimedia journalism major from Cumming, Georgia, who competes on the Eagle swimming & diving team. She is part of the Southern Scribes, which consists of Georgia Southern student-athletes writing about their department.
STATESBORO - The Georgia Southern Athletics Department sent over 30 student athletes to Atlanta this past weekend through the Athletes Preparing for Employment Experiences Program (APEX) for the Atlanta Career Tour.
APEX is a program unique to Georgia Southern that works with student-athletes across all sports to help teach fundamental career lessons. Students can work with APEX to create resumes, learn networking techniques, and start planning for career life after sport.
Accepted applicants traveled to Atlanta and met with three Fortune-500 companies including Delta, Chick-fil-A, and Coca-Cola. Students were able to network with company members, hand out resumes, and learn more about potential career opportunities for their future.
"I was most excited to network with Coke," said sophomore Zuri Clavo. "I am not exactly sure what my future career plans are, but I know I want to work in a big company. Being able to interact with companies like Coke and Chick-fil-A were great examples to see if I could fit in a future career like that."
There was also time for some fun and sightseeing while visiting Atlanta. Students had the opportunity to have dinner and network with Georgia Southern donors, attend a Braves game and visit the Georgia Aquarium.
"It's hard to imagine how many connections you can make through just Georgia Southern, but there are so many alumni out there who are willing to and want to help you to get a job," said sophomore Madie Banks. "To be able to see those connections and also start making those connections was super beneficial."
This was the second and final career tour offered to student athletes for the 2022-2023 academic year as one was held in Savannah in the fall, but more will be offered next school year.
