ATLANTA, Ga. - The Georgia Southern men's tennis team opened up Sun Belt Conference play with a 4-0 sweep over Georgia State in Atlanta, Ga. Georgia Southern improves to 12-3 and are winners of nine-straight, while Georgia State falls to 3-11 on the season.
Action started in the doubles matches where
Pierre Mouesca and
Judson Blair quickly defeated the duo at the No. 3 position, 6-2.
Alexandros Roumpis and
Valentin Dun quickly followed up with a 6-4 win at the No. 2 position to seal the doubles point for the Eagles.
Pol del Castillo Masich and
Aaron James Williams were ahead 6-5 at the No. 1 position when their match was called off.
In singles, Mouesca continued his tear by dominating his opponent 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 3 position to take a quick 2-0 lead over the Panthers. At the No. 1 position, Del Castillo took a strong 6-4, 6-2 victory over his opponent to set the Eagles up with a commanding 3-0 lead before Blair defeated his opponent, 6-1, 6-2, giving the Eagles the sweep over the Panthers and a 1-0 start to Sun Belt Conference play.
"We were locked in the match before it started," said Georgia Southern coach Adrià Guerrero. "I'm very proud of this team, but we need to keep going."
