Eagles Drop a Pair of Sun Belt Games to ULM

Action scheduled to continue tomorrow in Statesboro

STATESBORO - ULM used strong pitching and timely hitting to take both games of a Sun Belt softball series Friday afternoon at Eagle Field. The Warhawks won the first game 6-3 and took the night cap 2-0.

GAME 1: ULM 6, GS 3
A six-run second inning by ULM put the Eagles in a hole, but they continued to fight the entire way. In the fourth inning, the Eagles picked up three straight hits to plate their first run on an RBI single from Olivia Creamer and then Katie Perkins drove in a run with a groundout. In the fifth inning, Courtney Ball crushed a solo home run to left field to make it a three-run game.

The Eagles picked up hits from Perkins, Faith Barth, Janai Conklin (2), Ball, Janiyah Srong and Creamer.

Bailey Holland (L, 3-8) took the loss. She gave up all six runs in the second inning. Morgan Kendrick struck out five in 5.1 innings, allowing just four hits.

GAME 2: ULM 2, GS 0
The Warhawks plated runs in the third and fifth innings and made them stand up to take both ends of the day's action.

Georgia Southern hits came from Davis (2), Brooke Kell and Dejah Mills.

Alana Barnard (L, 1-1) went the distance, allowing two runs (one earned) on just four hits with three strikeouts.

The two teams are scheduled to wrap up the series on Saturday at 2 p.m., but the two teams will assess the weather and field conditions in the morning before making a final determination.
