
Eagles Complete Day 1 at CCSA Championships

Several personal bests set
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Bolstered by five personal bests and 10 season bests being set, the Georgia Southern swimming & diving squad wrapped up the first day of the CCSA Swimming & Diving Championships Wednesday at the Jones Aquatic Center.
Abby Wenham advanced to the B finals of the 50 free after placing 11th in the preliminaries. Her time of 23.28 was a personal best and the fourth-best time in school history. Melody Giberson (24.47), Carsyn Cosman (24.32) and Emma Sutton (24.48) all set season bests in the event. Wenham earned 13 points for the team in the B Finals with a time of 23.32 to place 14th overall.
In the 500 free prelims, Zuri Clavo (5:03.77) and Emma Scruggs (5:04.66) both advanced to the C Finals. Clavo earned nine points for the team in the C Finals with a personal-best time of 4:59.00 to place 17th overall and Scruggs placed 24th with a 5:05.44 to earn a point.
In the 200 IM, Jenna Maloy advanced to the C Finals after finishing 23rd in the preliminaries. Her time of 2:07.24 was a personal best, while freshman Ieva Evaltaite also swam a personal best with a time of 2:12.52. Abby Schoppa (2:11.61) and Lydia Evans (2:15.65) swam season bests. Maloy earned a point for the team in the C Finals with a time of new personal-best time of 2:08.28 to place 24th.
In the 200 medley relay finals, the team of Scruggs, Logan Belanger, Madlen Wendland and Wenham placed seventh with a time of 1:43.01.
The CCSA Championships continue Thursday with Day Two. Preliminaries begin at 10 a.m., with the Finals at 6 pm. Final events on Thursday include the 200 free relay, the 100 fly, the 400 IM, the 200 free, 3M diving and the 400 medley relay.
