The Georgia Southern women's tennis team is back on the court! All throughout the season, we'll give you a closer look at the team with our 5 Questions segment. Our next student-athlete is graduate student Liv Ryan!
Liv joined Georgia Southern from Penn State, where she played four years for the Nittany Lions, seeing action in 37 singles and 55 doubles matches. Originally from Australia, Liv graduated from Penn State with her bachelor's degree in May of 2022 and she is currently pursuing her master's degree from Georgia Southern in Public Administration.
1) Why did you choose Georgia Southern to continue your tennis career and pursue your master's degree?
After completing my undergraduate degree, I was looking for a change and immediately felt welcomed after speaking to Coach McCaffrey for the first time. Shortly after signing I received messages from many of the girls which further reinforced my decision to attend Georgia Southern. I was also looking to pursue a master's degree that would complement my undergraduate degree which Georgia Southern had. Overall, there is a strong focus on excellence in both athletics and academics which is something that also stood out to me about Georgia Southern as well as the emphasis of giving back to community!
2) Did you have a favorite toy growing up? What was it?
Yes, my pink dog Woof Woof. She is still with me today, definitely looking a little worn, but she was given to me by my babysitter and close family friend. She stills sleeps on my bed with me every night!
3) What's one thing that people don't know about you?
I was born was a foot that was turned completely in (I believe it is called a 'club foot') so my dad massaged my foot every day and I was placed in a little boot as soon as I was born. Thankfully it gives me no trouble today!
4) What is your favorite food?
Anything with avocado on it. I really love avocado toast with tomatoes, feta, and some balsamic glaze. I can really eat it on anything and at any time of the day. I also love chocolate covered pretzels!
5) Is there someone in your life outside of your parents who was a huge influence on you growing up?
My friend Bridget. She really inspires me every day she is the kindest person that I have ever met, and she always sees the best in people. I look up to her and try to be like her in any way, shape, or form. Despite the distance we always remain in contact and is someone that I know will always be there for me, no matter what.
