Georgia Southern hosts The Southern at The Savannah Golf Club in Savannah, Georgia, for the second time. The Eagles will host ten other teams for a two-day tournament, which starts on Monday, Oct. 23.
It is the second time Georgia Southern has hosted a fall tournament and the second time the Eagles have hosted an event at The Savannah Golf Club. Georgia Southern won the inaugural tournament last season by 10 strokes and five eagles finished in the top-20.
The Eagles are coming off of a second place finish at the Edisto Island Invitational Tuesday at the Plantation Course at Edisto Island. Louise Reau claimed the individual title earning Sun Belt Golfer of the Week.
Reau finished 5-under par shooting 68-70-67 (205) to secure the victory. Haley Yerxa, Regina Plascencia, and Abby Newton finished inside the top-15 along with Avery Robinson who played as an individual. Alex Stevenson finished tied for 24th and Emma von Hoffmann and Karlee Vardas tied for 62nd.
Newton makes her 35th career start, Yerxa makes her 15th career start, Plascencia makes her fourth appearance this season and freshman von Hoffmann and Reau make their fifth career start in the Eagle lineup. Stevenson, Robinson, and Vardas enter the tournament as individuals for the second time this season.
It's the final tournament of the fall for Georgia Southern, which opens its spring campaign at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic Feb. 4-6 at the Grand Reserve Golf Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
