Marshall Remains Unbeaten, Clips Eagles 3-1

STATESBORO - The Georgia Southern men's soccer team fell in a home conference match against the top-ranked Marshall Thundering Herd, 3-1, on Sunday night.
The Eagles (1-4-5) struck first in the match when AJ Pama connected with Jack Ireland inside the box, where Ireland struck the bottom left corner of the net to take a 1-0 lead over the Thundering Herd (10-0-0). The Eagles lead was short-lived, though, as the Herd answered just over four minutes later with an equalizing shot from a penalty kick. This concluded a period where the Herd out-shot the Eagles, 10-1, but the Eagles keeper Nate Martinez ended the period with three saves.
In the second half, Marshall took the lead in just under three minutes of action with a ball shot after a cross from another Herd player. Marshall took a 3-1 lead after another penalty kick in the 78', eventually leading to the 3-1 final.
Marshall out-shot the Eagles 15-3, including a 6-1 shot on target tally. Martinez had the only three saves of the match, and the Herd had 11 corner kicks to the Eagles' four.

The Eagles will head south to take on the UCF Knights in Sun Belt Conference action. Kick-off from Orlando, Fla., is set for 7 pm. on Saturday, Oct. 7.
