
Softball Picked Tied For 11th In Sun Belt Preseason Poll

STATESBORO - Georgia Southern softball has been picked to tie for 11th in a preseason poll of Sun Belt Conference coaches, released today by league officials.
The Eagles received 27 points in the preseason poll, tied with Georgia State for 11th out of the new 12-team Sun Belt. The league lost one team from last season (UT Arlington) but added three new softball members in James Madison, Southern Miss and Marshall.
Defending league champion Louisiana is the unanimous pick to repeat as the top team in the Sun Belt, securing 144 points and all 12 first-place votes. Texas State (130) was picked second, followed by South Alabama (118) and Troy (99). The three new teams all appear next in the poll with James Madison (93) picked fifth, Marshall (80) sixth and Southern Miss (68) seventh. App State (63), ULM (44) and Coastal Carolina (43) round out the poll ahead of both the Panthers and the Eagles. Georgia Southern finished the 2022 season with a 13-34 overall record and a 6-18 mark in Sun Belt play. The Eagles return six starters and eight letterwinners overall from last season's squad and welcome in 11 newcomers.
The Eagles open up the 2023 campaign on February 10-12, competing at the Easton Leadoff Classic, hosted by No. 9-ranked Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
