
Men’s Golf Finishes Runner-Up at Fighting Irish Classic

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Mason Williams birdied six of his final seven holes to shoot 64, and Ben Carr birdied three of his last four to post a 66 to lead the Georgia Southern men's golf team to a runner-up finish at the Fighting Irish Classic Monday at Warren Golf Club.
The Eagles (-20) shot 12-under in the final round, the lowest score of the day and second-lowest round of the tournament. GS finished a stroke behind Florida (-21) and a stroke clear of North Carolina (-19). Host Notre Dame (-16) was fourth, and Colorado (-7) finished fifth.
Williams' 64 is tied for 10th for lowest round in school history, and the fifth-year senior (-9) finished third. Carr (-8) took fourth, and Hogan Ingram (-6) fired a 67 today to tie for seventh.
Williams was even through 11 holes before catching fire on the last seven holes of the event and wound up shooting 6-under on the back nine. Carr came to the 15th hole at 1-under and made three straight birdies to get to 4-under for the day.
Ingram carded a bogey-free round with birdies on 3, 12 and 18, and Wilson Andress played his final 13 holes of the event 2-under to shoot 71. All told, the Eagle counters played the final six holes of the tournament 8-under. GS led the field in par-3 scoring and ranked second with 55 birdies on the weekend.
