STATESBORO - The Georgia Southern men's soccer team dropped its home opener against the 12th-ranked Charlotte 49ers, 5-0, on Sunday night.
The Eagles (0-3-0) only allowed a single goal in the first half, keeping the match at 1-0 as halftime arrived. In the second half, the 49ers (3-0-0) scored four goals to take the 5-0 victory in Statesboro.
"We went up against a very strong Charlotte team today and their ranking is appropriate," said head coach
John Murphy. "I thought they moved the ball very well. We matched up with them at times, then there were times they moved the ball around us."
"We are going to be positive and we're going to move forward. We have to find a way to be a little more cohesive on both sides of the ball, and use this as a learning experience to get ready for Friday night against Florida Gulf Coast."
