MOREHEAD, Ky. - The 17th-ranked Georgia Southern rifle squad opened the 2022-23 campaign in record-breaking style at the Button Rifle Range on the campus of Morehead State. After falling to MSU by an average of 93 points in four matches over the past two seasons, GS cut that deficit to just nine on Friday.

The Eagles posted school-record numbers in smallbore (2,315) and aggregate (4,661) while shooting a 2,346 in air rifle, the second-best team total ever. The team broke the smallbore mark by 26 points and the aggregate mark by 18 points.

Addy Burrow, in her first match as an Eagle after transferring from NC State, shattered the school record in smallbore with a meet-best 589, seven points higher than the previous record. She also set a new school record in the 20-shot standing series with a 196. Amy Visconti shot a career-high 582 to place second while defending SoCon champ Erin Ballard posted a 574 to tie for eighth place. Ashley Judson (570), Kinsley Hannon (569) and Bella Gamez (559) also toed the line for the Eagles on Friday.

In air rifle, Ashley Judson got off to a strong start with a 591 to tie for the gold medal. Burrow was just behind her with a 590 to place fourth. Ballard shot a 583 to tie for ninth, followed by Visconti's 582, Hannon's 574 and Gamez's 559.

Burrow shattered the previous school record in aggregate by five points by posting a 1,179 to take the gold. Visconti finished fifth with a 1,164 and Judson posted a 1,161 to finish eighth. Ballard shot a 1,157 aggregate to place ninth.
