WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Mason Williams fired a 63 in the second round and backed it up with a 71 today to tie for seventh and lead the Georgia Southern men's golf team to an eighth-place finish at the Old Town Collegiate Invitational Tuesday at the Old Town Club.
Sparked by an eagle on the par-5, 526-yard 4th hole, Williams played the first six holes of his second round 4-under and was bogey free on the back nine with birdies at 12, 13 and 18. His 63 tied for the lowest of the event and is tied for the fourth-lowest in program history. The senior shot a 71 in today's final round and carded a 72 in the first round to finish 4-under for the tournament.Â
Brantley Baker rolled in six birdies in the first round, including three in a row on 15, 16 and 17 to play his final five holes 3-under en route to a 66 in the first round. The freshman shot 71 in the second round and carded a 72 today to finish 1-under for the week and tie for 16th.Â
Wilson Andress shot 2-under on the front nine and made birdies at 13 and 16 on the back on his way to a 67 in the first round, and the senior posted a 69 today after making six birdies.
Ben Carr rolled in three birdies to shoot 69 today, and
Hogan Ingram shot 71 to give the Eagles an even-par 280 team score.
Kansas State (-12) won the event, a stroke ahead of tournament host Wake Forest (-11). Georgia Southern (+1) finished eighth, one back of Southern Miss and six shots behind Rutgers (-5) in fifth place. The Eagles led the field in par-3 scoring and ranked second in par-5 scoring.
