STATESBORO – The Georgia Southern men's tennis team announced their 2022-2023 schedule on Wednesday, August 3. The schedule features six different tournaments that the Eagles will take part in during the fall, and 22 total matches in the spring.
The schedule opens up with the UCF Fall Sizzler in Orlando, Florida, beginning on September 16 and ending on September 18. After a trip down south, GS will travel up I-16 to take part in the Mercer Gridiron Classic from September 23 to September 25.
The Eagles will take part in two ITA tournaments, the first of which being the All American Championships hosted by University of Tulsa. Two Eagles will be taking part in the qualifying round of the tournament. Just under three weeks later, the Eagles will head to Tallahassee, Florida, for the second time in 2022 for the ITA Regionals hosted by Florida State University.
Georgia Southern will conclude the fall tennis schedule with two more tournaments, the first of which being the UT-Chattanooga Steve Baras Invitational beginning on October 28 and ending October 30. The final tournament is the Wake Forest Fall Invitational in Winston Salem, NC, beginning on November 4 and concluding on November 6.
In the spring of 2023, Georgia Southern will begin the season in the Sunshine State for the second consecutive year, as they take on Flagler and UCF on January 20 and January 22, respectively. Following those matches, the Eagles will host their home opener against The Citadel on Junary 28, then host North Florida on January 29.
After the opening month, the Eagles will spend the month of February and a week in March alternating traveling and hosting teams, beginning with road matches against Kennesaw State (Feb. 11) and UT-Chattanooga (Feb. 12), before returning home to face South Carolina State (Feb. 17) and Stetson (Feb. 19). The following week, the Eagles will go back on the road to face Furman (Feb. 25) and Gardner-Webb (Feb. 26) before opening the month of March with two home matches against Mercer (March 4) and UAB (March 5).
Georgia Southern will spend the rest of the month on the road as they start with a Charlotte, North Carolina trip, playing both Charlotte (March 11) and Queens (March 12). On March 18, the Eagles will begin Sun Belt Conference play with Georgia State in Atlanta before heading north to face the two new members from the state of Virginia, James Madison (March 25) and Old Dominion (March 26).
Three of the final five matches will be played at home, started with an April 1 match against Coastal Carolina at the Wallis Tennis Center. The Eagles will take their final road trip of the season, facing Troy (April 8) and South Alabama (April 9) before closing the season at home against Southern Miss (April 15) and Louisiana (April 16). The season will culminate with the Sun Belt Championship, hosted in Peachtree City, Georgia, for the third-consecutive year (not including the shortened 2020 season).
