Eagles Clipped by Notre Dame, 6-4

Georgia Southern will play Texas Tech in an elimination game Sunday afternoon

STATESBORO – The 21st-ranked Georgia Southern baseball team fell in Game Four of the Statesboro Regional to Notre Dame by a score of 6-4 on Saturday night in front of a record-setting crowd at J.I. Clements Stadium.
 
Georgia Southern (41-19) got on the board first with the regional's first home run in the top of the top of the third inning when Noah Ledford shot a solo homer over the right field wall. Notre Dame (37-14) would respond with two solo shots of its own in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 2-1 lead.
 
Georgia Southern came back with three runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 4-2 lead, first from a Sam Blancato RBI single to score Ledford, and then a Kyler Hultgren two-RBI single to score Blancato and Austin Thompson. The Fighting Irish would tie the game in the bottom of the sixth inning with a two-run homer.
 
In the bottom of the seventh inning, with the bases loaded, the Eagles would hit two consecutive ND batters to bring in two runs, giving the Irish a 6-4 lead, which would be the final tally.

  • Ben Johnson entered the game as the bottom of the first inning began. Johnson pitched 3 2/3 innings, striking out four and only walking one while allowing two Notre Dame runs.
