Eagles Clinch Series over Little Rock, 14-6

Weather ends the Sunday match-up early

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Mother Nature ended the baseball game between Georgia Southern and Little Rock during the top of the seventh inning, but the Eagles picked up a 14-6 win over the Trojans and clinched their final Sun Belt Conference road series on Sunday afternoon.

Georgia Southern (34-17, 20-7 SBC) was able to build up a 6-0 lead going into the middle of the second inning, thanks to an RBI-single by Austin Thompson and a two-RBI single by Sam Blancato to score the first three runs. The fourth run would come from a wild pitch that scored Jarrett Brown, and the final two runs would come from Thompson reaching on an error, which would score Jesse Sherrill and Jason Swan.

Little Rock (22-24, 10-16 SBC) would score four in the bottom of the second inning to try and come from behind, but Jason Swan would give the Eagles a four run buffer with an RBI-single, sending Parker Biederer and Sherrill to home plate. The Trojans would plate another two runs to cut the Eagles' lead to 8-6, but four more runs would come to the plate from a Brown RBI-single, a Biederer ground out plating Thompson, and a JP Tighe two-RBI single plating Blancato and Brown. Georgia Southern would score two more runs in the top of the seventh inning with a Noah Ledford RBI-single and an Austin Thompson sac fly, setting the score at 14-6 before the game was called early due to severe weather.

Jay Thompson would make his 31st appearance of the season and collect his sixth win of the year after pitching for 4.1 innings, only allowing two runs and picking up two strikeouts on his 53-pitch outing.
