Chanticleers Take Series from Eagles, 6-4

Eagles drop first conference series at home

STATESBORO – The 24th-ranked Georgia Southern baseball team fell at J.I. Clements Stadium to Coastal Carolina on Saturday afternoon by a score of 6-4. The loss gave CCU the series win with one game remaining.
 
Georgia Southern (28-15, 14-6 SBC) got on the board in the bottom of the second inning with a Noah Ledford home run to right field, but Coastal Carolina (25-14-1, 13-6-1 SBC) would bring home a runner to tie the game 1-1 in the middle of the third inning. In the bottom of the third inning, the Chanticleers would commit three errors and the Eagles would score two runs, taking a 3-1 lead.
 
The Chanticleers would score two in the top of the fourth inning to tie it a second time and would take the lead on a three-run homer in the top of the fifth inning. The Eagles would get one more run in the bottom of the sixth from Jarrett Brown's RBI-single to plate Ledford, but that would be the final run of the game. The Eagles would threaten in the bottom of the eighth with runners on first and second and one out, but they would not score.

  • Jarrett Brown went a perfect 3-for-3 at the dish today with three singles. He also had a walk and an RBI.
  • Four pitchers combined for eight strikeouts for the Eagles. Jaylen Paden had three, Ben Johnson had one, Jay Thompson had three, and Jake Martin had one.
