A trio of Eagles are in the top-5.
EL DORADO, Ark. – The Georgia Southern men's golf team shot the second-lowest score in the first round and the third-lowest in the second, and the Eagles are in second place after 36 holes of the Sun Belt Championship at Mystic Creek Golf Club Sunday.
The Eagles (+8) are two strokes behind Little Rock (+6), and UTA (+18) is in third. Georgia State (+24) is in fourth, while ULM (+25) is in fifth, a stroke ahead of Appalachian State (+26). The top four teams advance to match play, which is scheduled for Wednesday.
Ben Carr (+1) shot 74-71=145 and is tied for second on the individual leaderboard, while Wilson Andress (+2) and Mason Williams are both tied for fourth after posting 73-73=146.
With the possibility of inclement weather coming to the area Monday, the Sun Belt opted to play 36 holes today. Stroke play will resume with the final 18 holes Tuesday, and match play remains slated for Wednesday.
Carr was even through 17 holes in his second round after making par on 14 consecutive holes, and the senior birdied the 18th for a 71, which tied for the second-lowest score in the second round. He is tied with Marcel Rauch of Little Rock, two strokes back of fellow Trojan Anton Albers (-1) for the lead. Williams and Andress are in a six-way tie for fourth.
Hogan Ingram shot an even-par 72 to lead the Eagles in the first round, and Brantley Baker rounded out the Eagle counters with a 75 in the second round.
Ingram started the day with 13 consecutive pars before making a bogey on the 599-yard, par-5 14th. The freshman birdied the 562-yard, par-5 18th to finish even in the morning session.
Williams birdied two of his first five holes and played the back nine even to finish with a 73 in the morning, and Andress shot 73 in the morning after playing the back nine even. Williams played the front nine even in the afternoon, while Andress made birdie on three of his first five holes to shoot 1-under on the front.
Georgia Southern leads the field in par-5 scoring (-6) and total pars (124) and is tied for the lead in par-3 scoring (+4). The Eagles are paired with Little Rock and UTA for Tuesday's final round and will tee off the first hole at 8:30 a.m. ET.
