TOURNAMENT STATS AND SCORES
STATESBORO – Senior Parker Claxton and junior Morgan Blythe both finished in the top five at the Thomas Sharkey Individual Collegiate at the GSU Golf Course to earn a spot on the all-tournament team as the Eagles opened spring tournament play.
Blythe roared back after an opening-round 78 to post a 65 and 68 to finish -5 for the tournament and take a solo second place. Claxton shot a 69-73-70 to finish one shot back and tie for third. For Claxton, it marks his third top-three finish at the event in four years as he won it as a freshman and took second a year ago. Only five players finished under par for the event with UAB's Erik Olin winning with a -10 score.
Three other Eagles finished in the top 25 as Edouard Cereto and Harrison Sewell tied for 12th and Trace Carter tied for 21st.
Blythe's 65 in the second round featured eight birdies and was the lowest round shot by an Eagle this season. He played the final 36 holes at -11 and finished the event with 15 birdies. Claxton carded 12 birdies and his first eagle of the season while Elijah Zamarron had 11 birdies. Trace Carter had two eagles and Ian Glanton also had an eagle.
Words From Coach Carter Collins:
"What a great Sharkey! The team played great golf and competed their butts off on a course that showed plenty of teeth during the event. This was the best field we have ever had for the Sharkey and had five Eagles inside the top 25, including two in the top three.
"Big thank you to Georgia Southern University Golf Course staff, our entire support staff and the Sharkey family for allowing us to honor Thomas with this tournament. It is a special two days that we look forward to each year, can't wait for the next one. Hail Southern!!"
