Box Score 2 MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. - Georgia Southern dropped a pair of games to close out the Spring Games at Madeira Beach on Sunday, falling to Nebraska-Omaha and Middle Tennessee.
The Eagles (5-11) fell to the Mavericks, 3-0, and to the Blue Raiders, 9-8, in eight innings to finish their week-long trip to Florida. Georgia Southern will now turn its attention to Sun Belt Conference play, opening up the league slate with a series at UL Monroe. The three-game series begins on Friday, March 11, with a 5 p.m. ET first pitch from Monroe.
GAME ONE: Nebraska-Omaha 3, Georgia Southern 0
The Mavericks' Kamryn Meyer hurled a one-hit shutout, striking out 10, as Nebraska-Omaha picked up the 3-0 win over the Eagles in Sunday's first game.
Faith Shirley's first-inning double was the lone hit of the game for the Eagles, and Meyer retired the final 15 batters she faced in the contest.
The Mavericks scored twice in the fifth inning - on a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly by Izzy Eltze, then added a single run in the sixth on a fielder's choice RBI off the bat of Alexa Sedlak.
Rylee Waldrep took the loss for the Eagles in the circle, giving up six hits and three runs in seven innings of work, walking one while striking out three.
GAME TWO: Middle Tennessee 9, Georgia Southern 8 (8 inn.)
In the second game of the day, Middle Tennessee built a 7-3 lead on the Eagles. Georgia Southern scored four runs in the top of the seventh to force extra innings, but the Blue Raiders scored a pair in the eighth to claim the one-run win.
The Blue Raiders plated three unearned runs in the first inning as an error led to an RBI double by Kaylee Richetto and a two-run double by Lani Rodriguez to put MT up 3-0.
The Eagles tied the game in the top of the second inning as Shelby Barfield's pinch-hit RBI single got Georgia Southern on the board. Madi Banks then followed with a two-run single to center field, making it 3-3.
Middle Tennessee got a sacrifice fly by Abby Shoulders in the bottom of the second to break the 3-3 tie. The Blue Raiders added a single run in the fourth, then two in the sixth for the 7-3 lead.
In the top of the seventh, the Eagles loaded the bases with nobody out. A fielder's choice RBI by Faith Shirley, then a passed ball made the score 7-5. An error led to another run, then Olivia Creamer had a 13-pitch at-bat, fouling off seven straight at one point, before delivering the game-tying sacrifice fly.
Madi Banks gave the Eagles an 8-7 lead in the top of the eighth with an RBI single, but the Blue Raiders collected three hits and two runs in the bottom of the eighth to win.
Kyleigh Richardson (1-4) took the loss in relief for the Eagles, giving up four runs - two earned - in 4 1/3 innings of work, walking one and striking out one. Kailey Ahlstrom (2-0) picked up the win for Middle Tennessee, giving up one hit and one unearned run in 1 2/3 innings of work.
Banks' three hits and career-high three RBI led the Eagles offensively in game two.
