STATESBORO - Georgia Southern Head Women's Soccer Coach Chris Adams rounded out his 2022 coaching staff today, announcing the additions of Mallory Sayre and Wes Anania to the Eagle program.
Â
Sayre will be an assistant coach for the Eagles, joining Georgia Southern from the University of Alabama-Huntsville, where she coached for two seasons. The NCAA Division II Chargers recorded a stellar 1.00 GAA as a team last season in the competitive Gulf South Conference, which included five shutouts.
Before moving to UAH, Sayre was an assistant coach at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta. She spent five seasons with the DIII Stormy Petrels, where she was responsible for the team's goalkeepers and defenders, while also assisting with recruiting, team travel plans and game management.
A former standout at North Georgia, Sayre amassed a 56-17-4 collegiate record as a four-year starter in goal for the Nighthawks, notching a Peach Belt Conference-leading 27 career shutouts and an 0.97 GAA. She graduated from North Georgia with her bachelor's degree in physical education in 2016, and also received her master's degree from UNG in physical education in 2018.
"I am excited to announce the addition of Mallory Sayre to the coaching staff here at Georgia Southern," Coach Adams said. "Mallory has gained lots of valuable experience as an assistant coach over the past six years. It is great to have two goalkeeper coaches on staff now to provide that specific, individualized training for our goalkeepers."
Anania, meanwhile, will serve as a volunteer assistant coach for the Eagles, while also directing the Chris Adams Soccer Camps at Georgia Southern University. He joins Georgia Southern from Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, where he served as the head coach of the Division III Stormy Petrels from 2015-21.
He also served as the head women's soccer coach at DIII Huntingdon College for three seasons. Anania also served as a volunteer assistant for Coach Adams at UNG for three seasons, from 2013-15. A former standout men's soccer player at Montevallo, Anania assisted at his alma mater for two seasons before taking the Huntingdon position.
Anania graduated from Montevallo with his bachelor's degree in kinesiology in 2006, and received his master's degree in physical education from the University of North Georgia in 2014.
"Wes Anania joins our staff and will provide valuable insight after years of experience as a head coach at both Oglethorpe and Huntingdon," Coach Adams said. "He will not only provide another experienced coach but will also be responsible for running our camps. I couldn't be more excited about the staff we have put together and believe our past experience together will elevate our program to new heights. Our best days are ahead of us! Hail Southern and Go Eagles!"
The Eagles went 11-7-4 overall in 2021, including a 4-3-3 mark in the Sun Belt Conference, and advanced to its first Sun Belt Tournament Championship match.
