No. 23 Louisiana Takes Series From GS Softball, 12-1

Eagles will host Troy next weekend in Sun Belt action beginning Friday

STATESBORO - No. 23-ranked Louisiana used an eight-run sixth inning to pick up a 12-1 victory over host Georgia Southern on Sunday afternoon at Eagle Field, taking the Sun Belt series between the two teams.

The Ragin' Cajuns improved to 17-8 overall and 4-2 in the Sun Belt with the win, while Georgia Southern falls to 7-15 overall and 2-4 in the Sun Belt. The Eagles return to action on Friday, March 25, hosting Troy for the first of a three-game Sun Belt series at Eagle Field.

Each team plated a run in the first as Sophie Piskos delivered an RBI single for Louisiana in the top half, but Janai Conklin answered with an RBI single in the bottom half.

The Ragin' Cajuns scored a single run in the third on another RBI by Piskos, then plated a pair in the fourth for a 4-1 lead.

In the sixth inning, Louisiana sent 12 batters to the plate in the eight-run frame, punctuated by back-to-back two-run doubles by Samantha Graeter and Kayla Falterman.

Sam Landry (7-2) notched the win in the circle for Louisiana, giving up six hits and one run in five innings, walking one while striking out four. Rylee Waldrep (3-3) took the loss for the Eagles, giving up nine hits and four runs in 3 2/3 innings, walking two and striking out one.

Conklin went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Eagles offensively.
