Eagles Open Conference Play With a Pair of Sun Belt Foes

STATESBORO – The Georgia Southern men's tennis team will open Sun Belt Conference play at the Wallis Tennis Center on Saturday, March 19, against the South Alabama Jaguars. The Eagles will then take on the Trojans of Troy on Sunday, March 20 in Statesboro. Both matches have first serve set for 1:00 p.m. on their respective days.

SOUTH ALABAMA

SERIES: Currently, the Eagles are behind in the series with the Jaguars, holding a 3-7 record against USA. The Eagles have lost six straight to the Jaguars, with their last win coming in 1987.

SOUTH ALABAMA OUTLOOK: Currently, the Jaguars sit at 9-5 on the season, but are riding a two-match losing streak heading into Statesboro. The Jaguars have faced common opponents in North Florida, UAB, Stetson, and Florida State, going 1-3 against those opponents, same as the Eagles. The Jaguars are led by Maxime St-Hilaire, who won Sun Belt Player of the Week to end the month of February.

TROY

SERIES: The series is currently favoring the Trojans, with the Eagles sitting at 3-9 against Troy. The Eagles lost last season's match-up in Troy, AL, but won the 2019 regular season match-up against the Trojans, 4-3.

TROY OUTLOOK: Troy comes into Statesboro sitting at 12-6, pending a game against Georgia State in Atlanta. They are coming in with a four-match winning streak, and are 5-4 on the road this season. Troy has also seen UAB and FSU this season, and also beat the Blazers and fell to the Seminoles. Troy is led by Pelayo Antuna, who was named SBC Player of the Week to open up the month.

UP NEXT: Following the weekend against the Alabama teams, the Eagles will head west to face a couple of Sun Belt teams, playing Lousiana in Lafayette, LA, on March 25, then playing UT-Arlington in Arlington, TX, on March 27.
