STATESBORO – The Georgia Southern baseball team won the third game of the series against William & Mary, 7-3, on Sunday at J.I. Clements Stadium. The win gave the Eagles their second straight sweep and they are now winners in eight of their last nine.
The scoring began in the bottom of the second inning, when
Parker Biederer fired a RBI single through the right side, scoring
Austin Thompson. Soon after,
Jason Swan hit a two-RBI single to center field, bringing
Jesse Sherrill and Biederer to the plate, giving the Eagles a 3-0 lead after two innings.
The Tribe would score back-to-back home runs in the top of the third, narrowing the Eagles lead to only 3-2. In the bottom of the third,
Noah Ledford would answer with a home run of his own, giving the Eagles an insurance run, leading 4-2 after the third.
After the Tribe brought home another run from a sac fly, the score would remain at 4-3 until the seventh inning.
Jarrett Brown would bring in pinch runner
Blake Evans off a RBI single through the left side, giving the Eagles a 5-3 lead. The scoring would conclude in the bottom of the eighth, where
Sam Blancato would bring in two runners on a squeeze, scoring Swan and Sherrill, and setting the final score at 7-3.
