Box Score MONROE, La. - UL Monroe scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to collect a 10-9 Sun Belt Conference softball victory over host Georgia Southern on Saturday afternoon in Monroe.
The Warhawks (14-6, 1-1 SBC) evened the series with the Eagles (6-12, 1-1 SBC) with the come-from-behind victory. The two teams will wrap up the series with a single game at Noon on Sunday.
UL Monroe opened up the game with two runs in the first inning on Kennedy Johnson's two-run home run. The Eagles answered in the top of the third, also using the longball, as Jess Mazur delivered her second grand slam of the season, while Janai Conklin added a solo home run to make the score 5-2 in favor of GS.
The Warhawks' Kennedy Page hit a solo home run in the third, but the Eagles broke out with three more runs in the top of the fourth, then added one in the fifth for the 9-3 lead.
UL Monroe began its comeback with two runs in the fifth on a Johnson double, then a single run in the sixth. The Warhawks completed the comeback by loading the bases with nobody out in the bottom of the seventh and getting an RBI single by Andie Edwards, a two-run single by Jacelyn Buck, then the game-winning single by Page.
Kastin Belogorska (2-6) took the loss for the Eagles, giving up 10 hits and seven runs - three earned - in 3 1/3 innings of work, walking two while striking out three. Adrianna Chavarria (2-3) picked up the win for the Warhawks, pitching 3 2/3 innings of hitless relief, giving up one unearned run, walking one while striking out three.
Conklin went 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Mazur finished with her four RBI to lead the Eagles at the plate.
