
Georgia Southern Takes Two from William & Mary

STATESBORO – The Georgia Southern baseball team won their second straight weekend series of the season with a win over the Tribe on Saturday, March 12. The two teams played in a double header, with the Eagles winning the first game 7-3 and the second game 6-2.
GAME 1
The Eagles led the first frame 3-1 after a two-RBI double from Christian Avant scored Jason Swan and Jesse Sherrill. A wild pitch would score Avant shortly after. Neither team scored again until the bottom of the sixth, where the Eagles added onto their lead. Sherrill laid down a sacrifice bunt, which scored Jarrett Brown. Shortly after that, Avant hit another RBI double that scored Parker Biederer. To cap off the Eagles scoring, Noah Ledford hit a single to left field, which plated Avant and Swan, giving the Eagles a 7-3 lead. The Tribe would score twice in the top of the ninth, but Thomas Higgins shut down the comeback bid and got the save, giving the Eagles the 7-3 win.

The Eagles scored twice in the fourth, where a Biederer sac bunt scored Kyler Hultgren, and shortly after that, a RBI double by Sherrill brought Brown home, giving the Eagles a commanding 6-0 lead. The Tribe would score twice in the seventh, one from bases loaded hit by pitch and the second from a bases loaded walk, but that would end the scoring, with the Eagles winning 6-2. The Eagles pitchers threw for a combined one-hitter on the night.
