Volleyball Adds Two Transfers to 2022 Roster

The Eagles return 15 letterwinners from last year’s 17-11 squad.
STATESBORO – Volleyball coach Chad Willis announced today that Emily Jarome (Wilmington, Delaware/Padua Academy/Towson) and Grace Underwood (Mullica Hill, N.J./Paul VI/Delaware) will transfer to Georgia Southern and play for the Eagles, beginning in the 2022 season.
"It's always an exciting day when we can announce newcomers to Eagle Nation," said Willis. "Coming into the offseason, it was important for us to continue to elevate our standards and build on our pursuit of excellence on and off the court. Emily and Grace bring with them a unique level of experience and familiarity that helps us competitively but more importantly, adds depth and character to the locker room and our everyday approach."
Emily Jarome, 5-11, OH, Wilmington, Delaware / Padua Academy / Towson / East Coast Power
Transfer from Towson, where she was a four-year starter • Two-time second-team All-CAA selection and named first-team all-league as a senior • Named to CAA All-Rookie Team in 2018 • Tallied 1,034 kills, 775 digs, 174 blocks and 89 service aces in 99 matches and 361 sets at Towson • Helped lead the Tigers to three CAA Tournament Championships and subsequent NCAA Tournament appearances • Played outside hitter for head coach Lauren Disabtino at Padua Academy during her prep career • In 2014, earned second-team all-state and Prep Volleyball Frosh 50 accolades • In 2015, earned first-team all-state and AVCA Phenom List recognition • In 2016, earned first-team all-state, was the Delaware Volleyball Player of the Year, the Prep Volleyball National Junior of the Year finalist and earned Prep Volleyball All-America Honorable Mention• As a senior, named first-team all-state, AVCA Phenom, Delaware Volleyball Player of the Year, was the Gatorade Player of the Year, Prep Highest Honorable Mention All-America • Holds the Delaware record for most kills in a career with 1,166.

Grace Underwood, 6-3, MB, Mullica Hill, New Jersey / Paul VI / Delaware / East Coast Power
Transfer from Delaware, where she totaled 166 kills, 124 blocks, 52 digs and 34 aces in 54 matches and 161 sets • Averaged 1.34 kills and 0.98 blocks a set in her senior season • Holds the Paul VI High School records for career kills (651), aces (198) and blocks (152) and earned all-state, All-South Jersey and all-conference honors during high school career.

"Grace gives us a boost in the middle, adding physicality as well as offensive and defensive acumen. Coming off a solid senior campaign at Delaware, Grace is determined and driven to make the most out of her fifth year here with us. We look forward to Grace's leadership and experience as we continue to build our culture while steadily pursuing a Sun Belt championship."
Georgia Southern finished the 2021 campaign with a 17-11 record, the most wins for the program since the 2013 season, and their nine Sun Belt victories were the most since joining the league in 2014. GS returns 15 letterwinners to the 2022 roster.
