Terren Ward Named Sun Belt Sixth Woman of the Year, All-Conference

Sophomore becomes the inaugural winner of the Sixth Woman of the Year award, named to the second team

STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern sophomore guard/forward Terren Ward has been named the inaugural Sun Belt Conference Sixth Woman of the Year, along with earning second-team All-Conference honors with the release of today's league awards by the conference.

Ward started nine of her 22 games played for the Eagles and led Georgia Southern in scoring average (15.3 ppg), rebounding (7.6 rpg) and steals (45) this season. She was the league's Player of the Week on February 15 for notching back-to-back 30 point games, becoming the first Georgia Southern player to do so since 1991. Ward also recorded six double-doubles on the season, including four straight from January 22 to February 5, the first time that has happened for an Eagle since 1992. Going into the Sun Belt Conference tournament this weekend, Ward is sixth in the Sun Belt in scoring, eight in rebounding, second in three-point field goal percentage (37.6%) and third in steals (2.0 spg).

The Jesup, Ga., native also earned a spot on Sun Belt All-Conference Second Team. Ward averaged 16.8 points per game this season in Sun Belt Conference only games, good for fifth in the league, while ranking sixth in rebounding, third in steals and fifth in three-point field goal percentage.

The 2020-21 Sun Belt Freshman of the Year, Ward is the first Georgia Southern women's basketball student-athlete to earn two major conference awards in a career since Hall of Famer Phylette Blake was the TAAC Player of the Year in 1987 and 1989.

Ward and the seventh-seeded Eagles open up Sun Belt Conference play on Wednesday, March 2, facing 10th-seeded Georgia State at 8:30 p.m. in Pensacola, Fla., in first round action.
