STATESBORO - The Georgia Southern softball team dropped a pair of games on the second day of the GATA Challenge, falling to UT-Martin 12-4 in six innings before falling to Maine, 14-4.
GAME 1: In the opener, UT-Martin hit four home runs and tallied 16 hits en route to a 12-4 win in six innings. The Eagles trailed 5-0, but a grand slam from
Jess Mazur in the third inning brought the Eagles back to within one. The Skyhawks bounced right back, scoring five runs in the fourth inning to put the game away.

Mazur and
Faith Shirley had the lone hits for the Eagles.
Kastin Belogorska (L, 1-2) went two innings, allowing two runs on four hits.
Rylee Waldrep pitched the final four innings, picking up two strikeouts.
GAME 2: The Maine Black Bears jumped out to a 4-0 lead before a solo home run from Shirley got the Eagles on the board in the fourth. After a walk from Aniston Johnston and a double from
Shelby Barfield,
Reign Williams drove them both in with a triple to right field to make it 4-3. The Black Bears put up a run in the fifth and the Eagles got it back in the sixth on a sac fly from Barfield. Maine finished its scoring with nine runs in the seventh to account for the final tally.

Shirley led the way with a pair of hits while Mazur, Barfield and Williams each had one.
Kyleigh Richardson (L, 1-2) pitched the first 3.2 innings and struck out three. Belogorska tossed the final 3.1 innings in relief.
UP NEXT: The Eagles (4-5) will be back action Sunday on Day 3 of the GATA Challenge, taking on North Dakota State at 12:30 p.m.
