LYNCHBURG, Va. - Georgia Southern swimming wrapped up its second day of competition at the CCSA Championships with 13 best times by its swimmers. The Eagles currently sit in sixth place with 423 points.
The 200 freestyle relay team of Abby Wenham, Denise Quentin, Melissa Cox and Amy Hornyak had the best finish in finals for the Eagles, finishing sixth with a time of 1:35.28.
In the 100 butterfly finals, Tori Rucker finished seventh with a time of 56.27, Lilly Kasra finished 14th with a time of 56.67 and Jenna Maloy finished 24th with a time of 57.94.
The 400 IM finals saw three best times for the Eagles. Zuri Clavo finished second in the B final and 11th overall with a lifetime best time of 4:30.46, besting her previous lifetime best of 4:31.75 set in prelims Thursday morning. Emma Scruggs finished 14th with a time of 4:33.19. Maloy finished with a time of 4:36.52, putting her third in the C final and 21st overall while dropping three seconds off her previous lifetime best, also set in prelims Thursday morning. Hannah Merrill finished 22nd swimming a college best time of 4:37.58.
In the 200 freestyle, Wenham finished 15th with a lifetime best time of 1:52.88.
The 400 medley relay team of Kasra, Hornyak, Rucker, and Wenham finished sixth with a time of 3:48.83.
Thursday morning's prelims were highlighted by Rucker swimming the fourth-best time in school history in the 100 butterfly with a time of 55.93.
The Eagles swam two lifetime bests, two season bests and one college best in the 400 IM prelims. Clavo swam a lifetime best of 4:31.75 and Maloy swam a lifetime best of 4:39.95. Lydia Evans swam a season best of 4:42.24 while Scruggs swam a season best of 4:30.26. Merrill swam a college best time of 4:40.50. Abby Schoppa also qualified for finals finishing 20th in prelims with a time of 4:38.36.
In the 200 freestyle prelims, Wenham swam a lifetime best of 1:53.57, Emma Sutton swam a lifetime best of 1:55.98 and Melody Giberson swam a lifetime best of 2:00.74. Grace Drawdy swam a season best of 2:00.90.
"Another amazing day of swimming," said Head Coach Amanda Caldwell. "A lot of best times coming in and some smarter races. Really excited for how Abby did in the 200 free, loved seeing Zuriñe come back for another LTB in her 400 IM, and Jenna had a crazy double and put out another LTB. Best part is the energy they are bringing to each session. Whether they are racing or not that session, this team is lifting each other up and I cannot wait for day 3!"
Diving did not compete on Day Two but will be back in action on Day Three of CCSA Championships.
The CCSA Championships continue Friday with Day Three. Preliminaries begin at 10 a.m., with the finals at 6 pm. Final events on Friday include the 800 freestyle relay, 1M Diving, the 100 backstroke, the 100 breaststroke and the 200 butterfly.
