Sophomore became first Eagle to score 30+ points in back-to-back games since 1991
STATESBORO - Georgia Southern sophomore Terren Ward has been named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week, announced today by league officials.
Ward became the first Eagle to register 30+ point performances in back-to-back games since Tracy Wilson had 35 points vs. Florida A&M on January 5, 1991, and 32 vs. VCU on January 8, 1991. The Jesup, Ga., native had a career-high 32 points on Thursday night in the Eagles' 82-80 overtime win over App State, registering the game-winning steal in overtime that lead to the go-ahead basket with 4.6 seconds left. She followed that up with 30 points on Saturday in a 90-75 win over Coastal Carolina, stuffing the stat sheet with 30 points, eight rebounds, three steals, three steals and a blocked shot. Ward also hit a career-high five threes in that contest.
This is the second SBC weekly honor for Georgia Southern this season as Mya Burns was previously awarded on December 14. This is also the second career weekly award for Ward, as she became the first freshman to earn a weekly honor on February 8, 2021.
Ward and the Eagles return to action on Thursday, visiting South Alabama for an 8 p.m. Sun Belt Conference contest in Mobile.
