STATESBORO – Carlos Curry collected career highs of 30 points and 15 rebounds, and
Kamari Brown scored 15 of his 20 points in the first 5:30 of the contest to lead Georgia Southern to a 101-73 men's basketball victory over Oglethorpe Saturday afternoon in Hanner Fieldhouse.
Eagles of the Game
Curry made 13 of 15 from the field and all four of his free throws en route to posting his first career double-double. Brown shot 9 of 12 from the floor and added four rebounds and three steals for Georgia Southern (4-3) as five players finished with double figures in the scoring column.
Tyren Moore and
Amar Augillard each scored 12, and
Kaden Archie finished with 10 points, six rebounds, three steals and two assists.
Key Moments
Brown scored 11 straight points in a 23-3 Eagle run that extended a one-point lead to 31-10 following consecutive triples by Moore with 12 minutes left in the first half. Georgia Southern made 11 straight field goals at one point and shot 66 percent in the first frame. The first-period lead grew to as many as 25 on a Moore floater in the paint with 1:47 to go.
After the Stormy Petrels scored the first two buckets of the second half, GS responded with a 12-3 spurt and opened a 71-43 cushion 4:27 into the period. Oglethorpe never got the margin below 20 points for the rest of the way, and it reached 31 on a
Nate Brafford tip-in with 33 seconds left.
Stats and Notes
- Curry has missed just three shots in the last two games, including one free throw.
- Curry is the first Eagle to score 30 since Isaiah Crawley scored 31 at North Florida in 2019. He's the first Eagle with 15 or more rebounds since Crawley tallied 16 at Georgia State in the 2020 Sun Belt Tournament.
- The Eagles tallied a season-high 21 assists on 42 made baskets.
- It was the first meeting on the hardwood between the two schools since 1974.
