Freshman will join the Eagles from North Oconee HS
STATESBORO - Georgia Southern Head Women's Tennis Coach Sean McCaffrey has announced that incoming freshman Mackenzie Leopold has committed to play for the Eagles in 2023-24.
Leopold is a standout Georgia product, currently competing at North Oconee HS. She is a two-time All-State honoree for the Titans and has been undefeated at the No. 1 singles position. She was the Region Player of the Year in 2021 and 2022 as well as the Athens Area Player of the Year, and she finished second in the 2021 Georgia State Tournament.
"I chose Georgia Southern because I felt an instant connection with Coach Mac and the girls on the team," Leopold said. "Georgia Southern has everything I was looking for in university. A great tennis program, strong academics, and a super positive team culture. I look forward to training hard and contributing to this awesome program. Go Eagles and GATA!"
"I believe Mackenzie has her best tennis days ahead of her," Coach McCaffrey said. "She has spent time with great coaches and tennis minds that have prepared her for her next step in competitive tennis and I'm very eager to have her begin working with the team. Mackenzie easily fit in with the team during her visit and it was clearly visible that she posses a deep desire to improve and become the best version of herself possible. I could tell that Mackenzie is driven, conscientious, caring, and well grounded. This is a direct reflection on her parents, her family and coaches, and on the wonderful young woman she has become. We are all excited to see her continue to build and develop as she joins us in the fall."
