Eagles and Hatters Battle to a Draw

Georgia Southern ties for the first time this season after a two-goal performance
DELAND, Fla. - The Georgia Southern men's soccer team picked up its first draw of the season after goals from Hilary Odhiambo and Samuel Odame on Tuesday night against the Stetson Hatters, 2-2.
In the 18', Odhiambo's gentle kick scored off of a Odame floating cross from the left side of the box. The score put the Eagles on top 1-0, but the Hatters responded in the 40' to tie the match at the half.
The Hatters scored 33 seconds into the second half of action, but a pass from Bill Okumu set up Odame with a long-range kick into the bottom right of the net, knotting the match up at 2-2. Both teams aggressively fought but neither gave an inch, finalizing the game at a draw.
The Eagles and the Hatters both had 11 shots on the night, but the Eagles had more shots on goal with seven to the Hatters' four. Goalkeeper Nate Martinez made his third start of the season and tallied two saves on the night.
"I thought the boys showed good fight overall," said head coach John Murphy. "We've had multiple games this year where the attitude and effort were there and some of the quality was missing, so I thought tonight was a better representation of what we can be. We moved the ball well, scored the first goal early in the first half, which we haven't done this season. Despite conceding two goals at poor times of the match, our equalizer summed up our efforts in the second half. I thought we created more than enough chances to win the game, but when we're trying to develop and grow, sometimes progress doesn't go the exact direction you want it to."
"I think it's a good performance to build from," Murphy continued. "Lots of positive performances from individuals, but collectively, I was pleased with everyone's attitudes and applications, and we're going to work to make sure we carry that momentum over for a very important game at Marshall this weekend."
