STATESBORO - The Georgia Southern men's soccer team fell in a Sun Belt Conference game at home to James Madison, 3-0, on Friday night.
The two squads were tied at 0-0 until the 43', when JMU (5-6-2, 1-2-1 SBC) scored to take a 1-0 lead into the half. In the 53' minute, James Madison scored again to take a 2-0 lead over Georgia Southern (1-11-0, 0-5-0 SBC). Six minutes later, the Dukes scored the third and final goal of the night to set JMU up with a 3-0 win in Statesboro.
Freshman goalkeeper Dagoberto Romero tallied 8 saves on the night, now holding 40 saves on the season and a save percentage of .606.
"I think tonight was a case of self-inflicted wounds," said head coach John Murphy. "We felt like this was a place where we could put our marker down and push forward in the conference. The timing of the [first] goal, right before halftime, really hurts because I think it came off the back of some decent play from us. You can see it in the shots ratio where the field is too big when we're defending and tooo small when we're attacking, and that's a bad combination."
"We have growing pains," Murphy continued, "but at the same time, we're 12 games into the season. It's tough. We're asking really young guys to step up, and they're doing it, but consistency is always going to be an issue when you're trying to develop a young group and that's where we are at the moment."

The Eagles will head down to the Sunshine State for the final time this season to take on the Stetson Hatters on Tuesday, October 18. Action from Deland, Florida, starts at 7 PM.
