JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Georgia Southern Men's Soccer (2-1-0) secured a 2-0 victory over Jacksonville University (2-1-0) on Friday night at Southern Oak Stadium. The Eagles' defense was effective, maintaining a shutout with four saves and capitalizing on two first-half goals to clinch the win.
In the first half the Eagles struck early with a goal by Lior Holtz at 12:48, taking a 1-0 lead. Broden Beorlegui doubled the lead for the Eagles at 14:44, putting them ahead 2-0. Jacksonville's offense struggled to find the target, with three shots off mark at 31:28, including two by Quinten Koster. Georgia Southern maintained its 2-0 advantage into the break.
In the second half early pressure from Jacksonville resulted in two quick shots by Emanuel Cappello and Leonardo Davi C Santos, both saved by Nicolas Aristizabal. Leonardo Davi C Santos created another opportunity for Jacksonville with a shot at 68:19, but Aristizabal maintained a clean sheet with another save.
Nicolas Aristizabal recorded a shutout while making four saves in the match. Holtz scored the game-winning goal, converting his only shot on target. Beorlegui added a goal to the tally, also with his single shot on goal.
