Inspire Her: Sarunchana Rattanasin

1. When did you first start playing sports? What was the first sport you ever played?

My first sport that I ever played was swimming. I used to be a swimming athlete for 2 years and then when I was 9 years old my parents wanted me to try to play another sport and I chose golf because it seemed like a cool sport.

2. How has your involvement in your sport shaped who you are today?

I think golf completely changed my life. When I was young, I went to a tutoring institute every weekend and I also had a very girly activity. It was jazz dancing and drawing. When I was young, I was low in motivation and low in self-confidence, but when I started to play golf, it made me healthier, learn how to manage my time, concentrate, discipline, learn how to make friends in the society, and learn how to solve the immediate problems.

3. Why do you love being a college athlete?

I like many things about being a college athlete. I have both the learning experience as well as the education and playing for the women's college golf.  I also got advice and techniques from my coach and learned how to manage my time to study and play golf at the same time. That's made me have to have more responsibility.

4. Who is someone that inspires you as a woman in sports?

Alison Lee is a professional golfer that inspires me. The reason she is a golfer is that she has a lot of effort, concentration, and discipline. Everything that she did was the reason why she succeeded. But at the same time she always hangs out with her friends, and she has a very happy life and activity. So, I love how she balances her life to strive to her goal but not to stress with it.

5. How do you hope you inspire athletes at Georgia Southern and other young women and girls in sports?

I think I have to practice and improve myself to have more opportunities for myself to succeed and I want to get acceptance from other people to show and inspire athletes at Georgia Southern and other young women, and girls in sports how achievement will make you proud of yourself.

6. What would be your advice to a young girl who wants to be in your position as a college athlete?

Personally, I think having a clear goal since when we were young will make us find a way and prioritize what we need to do to achieve the goals in a shorter period of time but don't rush to find the goal. We have to make sure that it is the thing that we have enough passion and ready to overcome all of the obstacles and hardships because I believe that the path to achievement is not easy. So, try your best and when you fall, just rise back up and push harder because falling down is a part of life.
