• Georgia Southern plays host to East Division preseason favorite Coastal Carolina Saturday and longtime rival Appalachian State Sunday in its first Sun Belt home matches of the season.
• It's Family Weekend and Alumni Weekend, and Georgia Southern is hosting a Block Party in the front parking lot of Hanner Fieldhouse prior to Friday night's match.
• The Eagles are off to a 2-0 start in Sun Belt play for the first time since joining the league in 2014. GS topped ULM 3-1 and Louisiana 3-2 on the road last weekend, and freshman Ashlyn Lovett was named the Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week after recording 53 digs in two matches, good for 5.89 per set.
• Georgia Southern trails the all-time series against Coastal Carolina 20-2 and has lost the last 12. The Eagles have lost the last six to Appalachian State and trail the all-time series, which began in 1989, 38-16.
• The Eagles' current five-match win streak is their longest since 2013, and their 7-3 record in non-conference play is their best non-league record since 2013, when they went 15-3 in non-conference play, which included a 3-1 mark in the postseason (3-0 in Southern Conference Tourney and 0-1 in NCAA Tourney).
• Baylor Bumford is fifth in the Sun Belt in hitting percentage (.323), and Christina Walton ranks sixth (.318). Bumford is eighth (0.95/set), and Walton ranks fourth (1.04/set) in blocks.
• The Eagles rank third in the Sun Belt in aces (1.72/set), fifth in blocks (2.07/set) and second in hitting percentage (.247). GS also ranks fourth in opponent hitting percentage, holding its opponents to .161.
• Madison Brown is the seventh Eagle to surpass 2,500 assists for her career, and the senior ranks sixth on the Georgia Southern all-time list with 2,596. She ranks first in the Sun Belt in aces (0.46/set) and fifth in assists (8.63). Grace Slader ranks sixth in the Sun Belt in assists (8.19).
• Following the weekend, the Eagles play Georgia State in a home-and-home series Oct. 7 (Atlanta) and Oct. 9 (Hanner).
