NEW ORLEANS – Ashlyn Lovett has been named the Sun Belt Conference Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week in a vote by the league's head coaches, the conference announced today.
Lovett averaged 5.89 digs per set, posting 53 total in a 2-0 week for the Eagles. The freshman tallied 26 digs, two assists and an ace in a 3-1 win at ULM and posted 27 digs, one assist and an ace in a 3-2 win at Louisiana. Lovett is averaging 3.63 digs a set for the season and is the first Eagle to win Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week honors since teammate
Baylor Bumford won in week six of 2019.
The Eagles, who are 2-0 in conference play for the first time since joining the Sun Belt in 2014, play host to Coastal Carolina Friday (6 p.m.) and Appalachian State Sunday (noon). It's Family Weekend and Alumni Weekend, and Friday's match will feature a Block Party prior to the contest.Â
