STATESBORO - Six members of the Georgia Southern rifle squad earned spots on the Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll for 2020-21, announced today by the league.
Sophomores Lillian Herring, Ashley Judson and Gabby Morrow, along with freshmen Erin Ballard, Bella Gamez and Amy Visconti, all earned spots on the squad.
Judson and Gamez earned Commissioner's Medals for carrying a 3.8 GPA or higher and Judson earned a spot on the 4.0 squad.
The 2,740 total selections (3.0 GPA for the year), 785 Commissioner's Medal recipients (3.8 or higher), and 264 4.0s are all league records, each surpassing last year's marks (2,646/710/229).
The academic honor roll originated in 1988-89, when SoCon athletic directors established the award as a way to recognize the league's outstanding student-athletes. The academic honor roll consists of student-athletes who participated in varsity sports and posted a 3.0 grade point average or higher for the academic year, were eligible the entire academic year and were members of the final squad lists. The award is different from the academic all-conference award, announced Wednesday, which is determined by cumulative GPA and involves a participation requirement.
