STATESBORO - The Sun Belt Conference champion Georgia Southern University women's tennis team was honored Monday with both team and individual academic awards from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) in its annual 2021 ITA Division I Academic Awards release.
The Eagles earned the All-Academic Team award for carrying a 3.61 GPA for the 2020-21 academic year. Georgia Southern was one of 210 women's programs across the nation who achieved the honor in 2020-21. To qualify, teams must carry a 3.20 GPA or better.
Individually, seven Eagles earned ITA Scholar-Athlete distinctions. Each student-athlete must carry a 3.50 GPA or better to qualify for the ITA Scholar-Athlete accolade. The Eagles who earned the honor for 2020-21 were:
Sara Barriendo,
Paula Boixader,
Mila Hartig,
Paula Hijos,
Sonja Keranen,
Nadja Meier and
Charlotte van Diemen.
Overall, 1,505 Division I Women student-athletes were named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, up by 75 from the previous year.
