STATESBORO - The Georgia Southern women's tennis team has finished the season ranked No. 10 in the Southeast Region, with the release of the final regional rankings from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association this week.
The Eagles appear in the regional ranking for the first time in program history after finishing the 2021 season with a 19-9 overall record, a Sun Belt Conference championship and a first berth into the NCAAs. Georgia leads the final Southeast Region ranking, followed by Florida State, Georgia Tech, UCF, Florida, Miami, FIU, North Florida and FAU. The Eagles are tied with South Florida for No. 10.
"I'm quite excited for our women to earn this regional ranking to cap off such an outstanding season," Georgia Southern Head Women's Tennis Coach Sean McCaffrey said. "It's a great achievement for them and a nod towards the effort they always exhibited in everything they did. The team put in so much work throughout the year, and it's great to see it pay off with both the Sun Belt Championship and being recognized among the top ten programs in arguably one of the toughest regions in the nation.
"We graduated two very important starters and leaders in both Lot [Charlotte van Diemen] and Paula [Boixader] and we are confident in the direction of our program. I believe we are poised to continue doing great things with the opportunities ahead of us."
