Eagles Split Double Header to Take Finale against Arkansas State

JONESBORO, Ark. – Head coach Rodney Hennon recorded his 100th Sun Belt Conference victory with the win in game two of the double header on Saturday. The Eagles fell to Arkansas State 4-0 in game one, before rebounding to take game two 3-2 in the night cap. Georgia Southern improves to 28-18 and 12-9 in conference play, while the Red Wolves fall to 16-24 and 8-10 in conference play.
 
In game one, the Eagles were shut out for the first time in 55 games after Arkansas State scored runs in the first, third, fourth and fifth. In game two, GS would open up the scoring in the top of the first as Mason McWhorter and Christian Avant both scored on separate wild pitches. 
 
Arkansas State would answer the two runs in the bottom half with an RBI single to tie the ballgame. In the third, Noah Ledford would ground out to second to score what would be the game winning run from third.
 
Jordan Jackson would work six innings of five hit baseball in the night cap, allowing two runs and striking out a career-high 11 batters. Nick Jones picked up his nation leading 14th save of the season, working an inning and 2/3 and struck out two Red Wolves. 
 
Georgia Southern will have the week off once again, before heading to Burlington, North Carolina to take on the Elon Phoenix. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 13th.

  • Georgia Southern was shutout for the first time this season in game one of the double header. 
  • Jordan Jackson posted a career-high 11 strikeouts in the night cap, working six innings allowing two runs on five hits. 
  • Coach Rodney Hennon collects win number 100 in Sun Belt Conference play with the victory in game two. He also collected his 748th victory at Georgia Southern.
  • Nick Jones moved into sole possession of the national saves lead with his 14th save of the season, moving three away from the program record in a season.
  • Christian Avant finished the day 6-for-8 with six singles, scoring a run in the first inning of game two.

Georgia Southern will have the week off once again, before heading to Burlington, North Carolina to take on the Phoenix. First pitch is scheduled for Thursday, May 13th at 6 p.m.
