Elon's Five Spot Takes Series on Friday

ELON, N.C. – Elon baseball put up five runs in the first in route to a 6-4 victory over Georgia Southern to take the series from the Eagles on Friday afternoon in Elon, North Carolina. GS falls to 28-20 on the season, while the Phoenix improve to 19-18 on the year. 
 
Chase Dollander was pegged with his third loss of the season, falling to 4-3 allowing five runs on three hits and one earned. Ben Simon improves to 1-4, while Joe Sprake picks up his sixth save of the season. 
 
Elon struck first in the bottom of the first, scoring five runs to take the lead. Georgia Southern would respond in the third, as Austin Thompson flied out to right field to score Mason McWhorter from third. In the fifth the Eagles cut the lead to three, as Christian Avant scored on a wild pitch.
 
In the sixth, Elon would add an insurance run with a solo home run to extend the lead to 6-2. In the seventh, Noah Ledford would single to right field to score Sam Blancato and Steven Curry to cut the deficit to two. 
 
Game three of the series is scheduled for 1 p.m. tomorrow from Latham Park in Elon, North Carolina. The Eagles will look to salvage the final game before heading to Mercer on Tuesday.
