Bailee Wilson has been named to the 2021 All-Sun Belt Conference second team, with the release of the league's yearly honors today.
Wilson earns her first All-Conference accolade for hitting .381 with nine doubles, six home runs and 27 RBI. A Sun Belt Player of the Week honoree on May 4, Wilson currently leads the Eagles in batting average, RBIs and slugging percentage and is also Georgia Southern's leading hitter in Sun Belt games, hitting .351. Shelby Wilson reeled off a 13-game hitting streak earlier this season, which was the fourth-longest in school history, and she currently leads the team with 16 multi-hit games. Wilson currently ranks sixth in the league in batting average and seventh in slugging percentage.
This past week against Georgia State, Wilson drilled a pair of late-inning three-run home runs to help the Eagles sweep the Panthers in a three-game Sun Belt series.Â
Wilson is the third straight third baseman for Georgia Southern to earn All-Conference honors.
Hannah Farrell was a second-team honoree in 2018 and a first-team honoree in 2019. No All-Sun Belt Conference team was named for the COVID-19 shortened 2020 season. Overall, Wilson is the seventh different Eagle to earn All-Sun Belt honors since joining the league in 2014-15.
Wilson and the Eagles open up Sun Belt Conference play on Tuesday, facing Georgia State at 2 p.m. in Troy, Ala.
