TROY, Ala. - Troy softball completed a Sun Belt Conference series sweep of visiting Georgia Southern on Saturday by taking both games of a doubleheader from the Eagles, winning 4-0 and 9-0 in five innings.
The Trojans stayed atop the league standings with the wins, improving to 25-6 overall and 9-0 in the Sun Belt. Georgia Southern falls to 7-17 overall and 0-8 in the league. The Eagles will return to action on Friday, April 9, visiting Coastal Carolina for a 5 p.m. Sun Belt Conference action.
GAME ONE: Troy 4, Georgia Southern 0
Troy's Brianna Bailey hurled a four-hit shutout and the Trojans scored all four of their runs in the fourth inning to take the game-one victory.
Bailey (3-1) walked three and struck out five in the complete-game victory. The game was scoreless until the fourth, when Katie Lively collected and RBI double, then Katie Webb followed with a two-run home run. A wild pitch brought home the final run of the frame.
Rylee Waldrep (2-4) took the loss for the Eagles in the circle, giving up four hits and four runs in four innings of work, striking out three.
Bailee Wilson had two of the Eagles' four hits to lead the team offensively.
GAME TWO: Troy 9, Georgia Southern 0 (5 innings)
Troy scored eight runs over the final three innings to claim the 9-0 victory in the final game of the series.
Katie Lively had a solo home run and Jade SInness had a three-run shot that was more than enough offense for Leanna Johnson, who won her second game of the weekend for Troy by limiting the Eagles to two hits and no runs in four innings of work. Johnson struck out six to improve to 13-3 on the year.
Anna Feil (0-5) took the loss for the Eagles, giving up four hits and three runs - two earned - in two-plus innings of work, walking one
